Hon. Raphael Magyezi, Minister of Local Government, has launched the second Cities Symposium and Expo under the theme: “Building Green, Resilient, and Climate Responsive Cities for All.”
Government will install 2,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across Uganda in a move that will extend internet access.
The newly created cities are characterized by governance and institutional deficiencies, urban planning deficiencies, weak economies, poor or non-existent city data systems.
If we are to develop Uganda cities in a way that is smart, sustainable, clean and functional to its habitants both people and animals then we need to embrace Artificial Intelligence.

This calls for strategic intervention by stakeholders to address the current gaps and deficiencies in order to steer the development of the new cities and the capital city Kampala.
Cabinet approved the creation of nine cities, five of which became operational on July 1, 2020.These cities include Arua, Gulu, Jinja, Fort Portal, and Mbarara .
