City Twinning

Cities Consortium facilitates and supports the twinning of Uganda Cities with cities abroad. The organization can act on behalf of a city in initiating a twinning relationship. Depending on similarities and differences, it can identify a suitable partner city or may recommend to a potential partner city the most suitable local partner city. It will also endeavour to ensure a mutually satisfactory relationship between the two cities.

The benefits of city twinning include the following:
Capacity building – Twinning can help strengthen the institutions involved through a transfer of skills and knowledge..

Exposure – Twinning facilitates exposure to contemporary developments, new cultures and different ways of executing projects.

Exchange of best practices – Twinning provides opportunities to identify policies, techniques and interventions that have worked and to spread the word about them.

Implementation – Twinning can facilitate joint implementation of common projects.

Effectiveness – Twinning that involves collaborating on a specific initiative results in stronger and more effective programs.

Relationship building – Twinning can help build stronger relationships among organizations within an individual city. These relationships could become important when an organization has a need and can turn to a partner organization for assistance.

Networking – Twinning can contribute to greater networking through the snowball effect, i.e. both cities involved in the twinning project are exposed to each other’s existing networks.

Solidarity – Twinning facilitates a sense of belonging to a larger community.

Inspiration – Cities involved in twinning are often inspired by the work of their partners.

Cities Consortium supports and facilitate the development of well planned, equitable, inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities in Uganda.
