Hon. Raphael Magyezi, Minister of Local Government, has launched the second Cities Symposium and Expo under the theme: “Building Green, Resilient, and Climate Responsive Cities for All.”
Cities Consortium supports and facilitates the development
of well planned, equitable, inclusive, resilient and sustainable
cities in Uganda.
Cities Consortium is a voluntary, non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization that supports and facilitates the development of well planned, equitable, inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities in Uganda through lobbying and advocacy, education and training, research, provision of services and implementation of city development programs.

The Cities Expo & Symposium is an annual flagship event of the Cities Consortium, aimed at promoting sustainable urban development in Uganda and beyond. This event provides a platform for local and international cities to exchange ideas, discuss urban challenges, share innovative solutions, and showcase investment opportunities. The theme for the 2026 Expo is “Building Smart, Green, Resilient, and Climate-Responsive Cities for All.”








To lobby and advocate issues pertinent to the development of Uganda cities. Our lobbying and advocacy focuses on legislation, policy, regulatory bodies, finance and budgeting.

Cities Consortium has put in place a fully equipped human resource unit that conducts education and training programs of city elected officials and city technical staff.

Improves the environment, ensures rich biodiversity, reduces air pollution, ensures water storage, dampens noise, allows relaxation, provides shade in hot weather and makes the city livable.

The Uganda Urban Expo and Symposium 2018 provided a forum that recognized and discussed the promotion of secondary cities as key players in ensuring livable, equitable, inclusive, secure, sustainable, resilient and smart urban areas. It also gave an opportunity to companies with products offering solutions to the enduring urban
challenges, to showcase their products to a most receptive audience and potential customers.
The theme of The Urban Expo 2018; “Becoming investment ready: Unveiling the business and investment potential of secondary cities” was chosen in order to stress that secondary cities must be investment-ready to fully realize their business and investment potential.

Government will install 2,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across Uganda in a move that will extend internet access.
The newly created cities are characterized by governance and institutional deficiencies, urban planning deficiencies, weak economies, poor or non-existent city data systems.
